2018-08-31

AFA is happy to announce the opening of “0 - Works by Wong Weng Io” will be held on 17th Sep (Monday)! Wong Weng Io (Yoyo) was born in Macao. She has finished Bachelor of Art (Fine Arts) with First Class Honour in Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology in Melbourne, Australia. She is now based in Macao. Her works mainly question the relationship and mutual impact in-between human existence, information, technology, personal data, artificial intelligence and robotics.

0 - Works by Wong Weng Io

The investigation of the current exhibition of Wong Weng Io is comparable to the endless futility of Sisyphus in Greek mythology. It is the outpour of her impression toward the tedious loop of daily life. Through the entire sequence of numbers, she puts such an infinite repetition into the exhibition of now.

The artworks in Wong Weng Io’s exhibition “0” were composed of 365 units. On each of the acrylic sheet unit, the outputs were all made with artistic Giclée prints. The photos were taken as imitations of the finger movements on the cell phone screen, overlaid on top of the other, cancelling the traces of the previous one.  And these recorded contents reveal the traces of the interface we use during one day. that takes place in time in the work of “0”, it is as if the process is accumulated back to “zero”. It is the beginning and it is the end. It is zero and it is infinity at the same time. It is as if in a domino game except that there is no beginning at this game. Every point is the beginning as well as the end. It is in this context that the meaning of “0” has been brought about.
